Courses for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People

Accredited Courses

Are you looking to improve your skills and knowledge across different subject areas?


We have a selection of courses available for Deaf and hard of hearing adults aged 15 or over, led by our deaf trainers who work with you and support you with your study. Courses are delivered in Auslan and spoken English and provided at The Deaf Society in Parramatta. Semester 2, 2021 runs from 12 July – 17 December. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

ATE takes complaints and appeals very seriously and applies the principles of fairness and justice to all complaints and appeals lodged by students.

If you’re a NSW student and you have a complaint you want to take further please contact Smart and Skilled by calling 1 300 772 104 or access the Smart and Skilled website for more contact options.

It is compulsory to have a USI and your enrolment cannot be confirmed until a USI is provided. If you are unsure as to what this is and need more information, please visit the USI website. If you have not yet obtained a USI you can apply for it here.

Please bring the following documents with you on enrolment day:

 

Proof of citizenship in the form of one of the following:

  • Australian or New Zealand Birth Certificate
  • Australian or New Zealand Passport
  • Green Medicare card
  • Naturalisation Certificate
  • Humanitarian VISA
  • Certificate of Evidence of Resident Status (Permanent Resident)

 

Proof of residency or employment in the form of one of the following:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Health Care card or Pension card
  • Proof of Age card
  • Letter or email form employer to show the street address where you are working
  • Utilities account relating to your address within the last 3 months of rental document

 

If relevant, proof of disability in the form of one of the following:

  • Disability Support Pension card
  • Letter form a medical practitioner
  • Letter from a health professional
  • Letter from a government agency
  • Letter from a school counsellor

Access Training & Education’s COVID Safe plan requires that all students attending face-to-face classes be double vaccinated. All students who are accepted into a face-to-face class will be required to show proof that they are double vaccinated or have an exemption at their first class.

Non-Accredited Online Workshops

Want to learn new skills? Deaf Services and the Deaf Society is running a series of online workshops delivered in Auslan for deaf and hard of hearing people in New South Wales, promoting wellbeing and connection. 

 

Join in via Zoom from the comfort of your own home using a computer or a laptop. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government and is fee free for students who meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible, you must be deaf or hard of hearing, over 15 years of age and a New South Wales resident. 

 

The courses currently available are:  

Learn how to create your own digital drawing using an iPad. Learn how to create your own digital drawing using the app Procreate, on an iPad. You will be taught how to download the app and how to use it during your first session. No experience is required.

When: 7pm – 9pm Thursdays 23rd September, 30th September, 7th October and 14th October

You will need: your own Zoom account; a computer or laptop; and an iPad and iPad pen. Please note Procreate is a paid app – you must be willing to pay to download this app onto your iPad.

This relaxing workshop will help you discover your creativity and reconnect with art and your creative side! No experience is required.

When:
7pm – 9pm, Fridays: Friday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th October

1pm – 3pm Saturdays: 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th October

You will need your own acrylic paint, paint brushes (any size) and canvas board or canvas papers.

Learn how to navigate your way around Zoom confidently and with ease. You will learn how to create your own meeting, join a meeting organised by someone else, change your name and background as well as use the chat box and other features!

When:

10am – 12pm, Tuesday 21st September

4pm – 6pm, Thursday 23rd September

Feeling stressed, anxious or deflated? Want to improve your overall mind and body wellbeing? Join Karla’s workshop where you will learn practical tips about how you can start integrating mindfulness, self-compassion and kindness into your daily life.

When: 5pm – 6pm, Tuesday 21st September

You will need a Zoom account, computer, laptop or iPad to participate in these workshops.    


You may enrol in as many workshops as you like, but make sure to secure your place quickly as space is limited.
